History of PhotographyAlhazan, who is recongnised as the world's first true scientist, was born in the year 965. He was the first to explain that are objects are seen when the light is bounced off an object and is diredcted into your eye. This realisation and discovery helped him to invent the camera obscura in the 9th century. Camera obscura means 'dark chamber'. This camera in a dark box (However it was first created as a room) with a lens projecting the image on the inside of the box. In the 17th century many scientists were fascintated by this idea.

The Daguerreotype was the first publicly available photographic process, and for nearly twenty years it was the one most commonly used. It was invented by Louis Dguerreotype and introduced worldwide in 1839. The process went as so:
1. Polish a sheet of silver-plated copper to a mirror finish. 2.Treat it with fumes that made it surface light sensitive. 3. Expose it in a camera for as much as necessary, longer for less intense lighting. 4. Make the result visible by fuming it with mercury vapour. 5. Remove it's sensitivity to light by liquid chemical treatment. 6. Proceded to rinse and dry it, then sear the easily marred result behind glass as protection. |
